Opera partners with Ledger Capital to step up blockchain initiative

Opera, the Norway-based internet browser has made public its strategic partnership with Ledger Capital, an advisory and financial services firm.

In a press release published on Friday, Opera and Ledger Capital have drafted a formula of working together to help advance the application and use case of blockchain technology. The partnership will look at how technology can be applied to Opera’s products and ecosystem.

Previous ventures

Opera got into the crypto space in December 2017 when it offered a built-in crypto jacking protection for its users. Six months down the line, Opera filed an ICO with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which raised $115 million. With a Nasdaq listing, Opera managed to get investment capital from notable companies like Bitmain, a Chinese cryptocurrency mining heavyweight. This was later followed by an addition of a built-in cryptocurrency wallet in July and August for both Android and desktop users.

Charles Hamel, Opera

In its latest statement, while announcing its partnership with Ledger Capital, Opera noted that the past 18 months have been extra busy for them in terms of working around the cryptocurrency space. Charles Hamel, the Head of Opera’s crypto wallet department, expressed optimism in the partnership and expects that it will revolutionize online payments:

Having a crypto wallet in the browser brings the cash experience to the world of online payments. Paying with the crypto wallet is like sending digital cash straight from your phone, and we’ve just made it easier. This opens up new possibilities for merchants and content creators alike.

Ding’an, Ledger Capital

On the other hand, Ding’an, the Managing Partner at Ledger Capital sang praises to Opera for its recent efforts in the crypto and blockchain space. He spoke briefly about the impact of the partnership on the cryptocurrency space:

We are excited to work with an innovator and industry leader like Opera. Opera has already taken the lead among the major browsers, with the integration of the innovative crypto wallet and investments from other leading crypto companies like Bitmain. We are looking forward to exploring the next steps in how Opera will leverage its massive ecosystem and technical competencies to create exponential value for its user base and the greater blockchain space.
